Long Overdue

So it's been a while....and that may be an understatement. But here are some pictures of what me and the boys have been up to sense I have been off of work. You would think that because I don't have a job I would have been updating my blog almost daily but that obviously was not the case. Now that I will be going back to work soon I will probably be better at keeping up with it! :)

So here are a few of our favorite memories and pictures.....

Just before Christmas Wilson got a helmet because he had a HUGE flat spot on the side of his head. It's off now and the flat spot is still there but it looks a lot better.

Smith Family Reunion in Bend, OR

We had a great long weekend last week at the Smith Family Reunion. We met up in Bend, OR Wednesday to Sunday. There was a total of 68 people so it was a lot of fun with all the cousins and little ones running around. Each night a family was in charge of an activity so Wednesday night we all got together for field games and cupcakes......water balloon toss, potato sack races, and the craziest bowling game I have ever seen. Thursday we went on the steep hike up Smith Rock. Most everyone made it to the top with the exception of Calvin, Grandma, and Pappa and a few other that decided to go rock climbing instead of hiking. That evening we got together for stories of Grandma and Grandpa Smith. Friday we all went to the lake. We rented a waverunner and the other families rented a boat plus another waverunner. We finally got Calvin to come with me and Eric for a ride and he was loving it. That is until Eric turned it around too slow (worrying about Calvin) and ended up flipping it over. As a mother I was freaking out a little bit...Calvin doesn't like the water much, especially in his face. Luckily he managed to close his mouth and I pushed him up out of the water as hard as I could before I surfaced. Thank heavens for life-vests!!!!! There is no way I could have found him if he wasn't wearing one and I was holding on to him as I fell in too! That night we had family pictures taken and Calvin had a lot of fun painting a cute frame for our picture. Saturday was a relaxing day at the pool for me and the boys while Eric played golf with the guys, then we had a fun game of kick ball with everybody. That night we watched a slide show of the weeks events and said our long goodbyes. Overall it was a great little vacation!

The great house we rented. Whenever we get back from a fun vacation Eric and I always want to buy a house there and this was no exception. We would love to buy a rental place at Eagle Crest hopefully someday we can but until then we will just have to rent!

Everything I had heard about having a second child is true...especially when it comes to the amount (or lack there of) of pictures. I was feeling a little bit like a bad Mom the other day so I finally got my equipment set up for a quick photo shoot of the boys. Hope you enjoy!!!

The Evidence Left Behind

As a Mother of a toddler I start to get a little bit worried when I'm upstairs without said toddler for an extended period of time (10+ minutes) and I don't hear yells of "mom let me show you something." Or the sound of little feet running up the stairs and down the hallway toward my room. So sure enough my suspicions were correct that Calvin was in something he shouldn't be yesterday evening. As I walked down the stairs into the kitchen this is the scene I encounter.

Calvin had taken his step stool from the bathroom and placed it in front of the counter. But what was most puzzling was the empty ziploc bag that laid on top of the stool. It took me a few seconds to realize that an entire loaf of sourdough bread once lived in that ziploc. So the hunt began......."where is the bread Calvin?"

"On table." So here it was...on the dinning room table with lots of little bites taken out of it.

Yep...he was caught! I guess he was hungry. I now realize that my little boy is getting too tall and too smart. I have to start hiding the good stuff :)

The heat is finally here!!!! We took the opportunity to head to the lake Saturday and play soccer, baseball, and of course play in the water too!

Last week Calvin went to Long Beach with his cousins, aunt, and grandma and grandpa. He had lots of fun playing on the beach and with his cousins. His favorite part he tells me, is when the ocean got him! I guess a big (ish) wave got his feet and he thought that was pretty fun!

Saturday April 3rd we checked into the hospital at 6am.....the car seat was installed, crib was made, all we needed was a little baby. We still didn't know what we were going to name him and this was topic of conversation on the way to the hospital and while I was in labor....Thank heaven for epidurals! The pitocin was started at 8:30, epidural at 11 and my water broke at 11:30. A few hours and three pushes later little Wilson Maddux was born. We decided on the name an hour before he was born. Easter a Week Early

Because of my scheduled induction the Saturday before Easter, we celebrated a week early. The Easter bunny made a special trip to our house to deliver fun toys and candy to Calvin. His favorite toy is his first remote control car! He is still kind of afraid of it....which is why he is sitting up on the counter while he controls it. He also received a book to help him write his letter which he loves. He already knows all of the letter of the alphabet so now we can work on writing them. Thank you Word World and Super Why cartoons for teaching my child his letters......is it sad that cartoons teach him things that I didn't even think of teaching him for at least another 6 months. Oh well, at least I can justify the time he spent watching them now! :) For Easter dinner we went over to Grandma and Grandpas for ham, deviled eggs, and yummy rolls! Oh......I love easter dinner :)

Eric's Birthday

Eric's birthday is today. We didn't do too much because he thinks he's old and is "over birthdays"..... how can you be over birthdays??? Anyway, Calvin and I surprised him at work and brought him and his co-workers a cake to eat. Then of course we had a huge pie to eat at home too. It was a banana chocolate cream pie with a touch of coconut on top from Papa Hydens in Portland. It was very yummy but HUGE especially when Eric and I were the only ones eating it. Calvin tried some but didn't like it very much and despite the pictures Teddy didn't help eat any either.

The First Band-aid

Calvin is 2 and 1/2 and he just now had an accident that needed a band-aid. We went to the nature reserve in Richfield where he was having fun running on the dirt road ahead of us (of course we didn't realize it until after the incident but we were not even supposed to be walking on the road.....vehicles only until May 1st.......oopps!) Anyway, he fell and broke the skin on his hand. He was really scared and wouldn't move his hand for at least an hour after it happened.

Meeting Santa

Calvin met Santa for the very first time. We went with Bridgett and Avery to a Christmas party at their children's dentist (isn't that adorable...I love that a kids dentist gets dressed up and puts on a fun party for kids). The dentist was actually dressed up as Elf with Will Farel hair and all. Calvin was completely petrified of Santa and Mrs. Clause but I was eventually the bad parent and threw him on lap for a picture anyway. I think I may have done some permanent damage....but the picture is hilarious so I could I have done any different??? Besides seeing Santa they decorated a tree ornament got some stickers and even ate cookies and milk. Hope you enjoy and pictures we were so happy to have gone and hopefully we can do it next year with Calvin behaving a little bit better for the picture.

Halloween in December

I cannot believe that Christmas is right around the corner and I haven't posted Halloween pictures yet!!! Well here are the cute pics of Calvin getting his cow costume on....which as you can see in the first couple pictures he hated. Of course after we knocked on a few doors he was happy as could be. He even loved helping me hand out the candy afterward too.

Big Boy Toys

About a month ago a piece of our siding magically fell from off our house. Of course it had to be the piece at the very top of our house to make it as difficult as possible to replace. Well our house is officially on the market so now was the time to finally fix it. Eric rented a huge lift thing (can you tell I'm a girl because I wouldn't even begin to know what to call this thing) and hoisted himself high enough to replace the siding. Calvin and I had a lot of fun watching and Calvin was even imitating Eric when he would pond the nails in.

Practice Run

After much prodding, pleading, and even bribing we eventually got Calvin to try on his Halloween costume last night. Of course once he had it on he didn't want to take it off. It might have been because we took him to the front door and let him ring on the doorbell and get candy.....but he was just practicing. Here are some cute pictures I snapped of him in his cow outfit! Can't wait for Halloween this year!

Calvin's New Shirt

Calvin got a new shirt to announce that he is going to be a big brother in April. Now you all know why I have been out of touch the last month or so. With this pregnancy I starting feeling sick before I even knew I was pregnant. I'm 9 weeks along now and hopefully things are looking better. Calvin is excited to be a big brother and we are excited to add another little boy or girl to our family. : )

197 miles in under 28 hours. Hood to Coast 2009

Ok, so I didn't run the entire 197 miles but I did contribute along with 11 other of my teammates. Being 8 weeks pregnant it wasn't my fastest race but hey I did my legs plus some without walking. It was a crazy two days that consisted to 2 hours of sleep, a sick team captan (who had to leave the race early due to his vomiting), lots of driving, and extra running due to a missed exchange by van #2. over all I ran my three legs plus an additional 1/2 a leg. On the last exchange van #2 got a bit confused and went to the next exchange point which left Dena and myself to finish an extra leg. Dena was amazing because she had just finished running what she thought was her last leg of over 5 miles and after waiting for about 5 minutes she took off expecting to run an additional 4. We stopped her about half way thru where I jumped out of the van and finished it for her so she could actually rest. At that point we were exhausted, hungry, and dying to get out of the van. Overall it was a lot of fun and I would do it again.

Here are my van mates. Our team name was Kiss My Asphalt which I don't think applied to me. I did however, have about 14 road kills...not bad for a pregnant woman, right?

Finally finished! Here is our team running across the finish line. Ready for a good meal and bed. I was lucky to have already taken a shower by the point at a friends parents cabin but a bed sounded really good at this point.

Calvin's 2nd Birthday

Calvin's 2.....I cannot believe it! Time goes by so fast and our little baby is no baby anymore. He is a little man. We had a low key birthday party for him. We cooked out hamburgers of which he only ate cheetos the entire time. But then we had cake, ice cream, and presents!

Steamboat Springs, CO

Early August (yes it takes me a while to post on this thing sometimes) we met up with Eric's family in Steamboat Springs, CO for a week of fun. It was so much fun seeing everyone again and watching to boys play together. Calvin picked up a lot of cute things from his cousins on this trip and they played so well together. The weather was perfect and we all had a lot of fun. One day we went to some amazing hot springs. The hottest springs were way too hot for me....there was a lot of steam coming from the water and I swear it was close to boiling. But the others were really nice. Even the coldest one felt good and refreshing. Calvin loved playing on the rocks around the edges of the springs. Another day we hiked up to Fish Lake Falls (I think that was the name of it) that supposedly is the falls that is on the Coors cans. Other than that we had fun playing in the pool and exploring the cute downtown. Oh, how could I forget????? We had a chance to see a Chicago Cubs game while we were there! Cubs won which made it even more fun.

It's Getting Hot....

Last weekend Calvin and I went to one of the fountains in Portland with some friends. It was a great way to cool down and enjoy the sun! At first Calvin would not let me set him down in the water. That was until he found an empty container and then he didn't want to leave. He played all day filling the container with water and dumping it over the rocks. Here are some of the pictures I snapped with my phone.

The 4th

For the 4th of July this year me, Eric, Calvin and my parents and my sister Amy and her family all went to Bend, OR. We had a blast in the heat! The morning of the 4th the kids were in the cutiest parade. They do a Pet Parade downtown Bend every 4th. Kids decorate bikes and wagons or just walk with their pets along the two main streets in Bend. We saw a lot of stuffed pets (which is the kind of pets our kids had), dogs, and even chickens. The kids loved it!

After the parade we walked down to an art fair and found some lunch. It was so hot! All we wanted to do was go jump in the pool!!! So that's exactly what we did.

Ready Paint Fire

Me and a couple of friends with our kids went to paint pottery for Father's Day. It turned out to be a lot of fun. We picked out colors and the pottery and then the kids did all the painting. I tried to get Calvin's handprint on the plate but he was so upset that I was putting paint on his hand that it didn't turn out as well as I planned. He just hates it when his hands are dirty..... it cracks me up! He is constantly wanting his hands cleaned during meals only to dirty them as soon as he starts eating again.

After the pottery place we all went out to a nice lunch and surprisingly the kids all pretty much behaved themselves! Calvin was stealing Masons grapes but other than that it was a lot of fun! We are going to have to do it again sometime soon.

Cousins

When my sister-in-law, her husband and their kids came into town for the race we all went to Seaside for a couple of days. Calvin had tons of fun playing with his cousins and with all the rocks he could carry. We had to set a limit at one rock per hand so at every rock pile he saw he would drop one and search for the perfect rock to replace the one he dropped. Here are some cute pictures I got of the cousins together in the tub!

Yes, I managed to do another half marathon. Why???.....I seriously questioned that on many occasions. That is until I crossed the finnish line, grabbed my jamba juice and took a long hard breath. Nothing feels better then running until you think you cannot go anymore and then pushing an extra 3 miles. This year was not my fastest time....8 stupid seconds over 2 hours....YUCK! But I have no one to blame but myself. I have run this course before so I knew there would be hills but I didn't train for them. Oh well, there is nothing I can do about it now. And the important thing is that I finished and I finished strong. Emily (who ran this with me last year) was at the finish line with my family. She managed to take the beautiful marching picture of me :) I missed her this year.....it was lonely without her and I'm sure she would have pushed me that extra bit to finish under 2 hours. She promised me that next year she wont be pregnant!!!

Here we all are at the end of the race....sweat and all. Meagan, Traci (who ran with a fracture and is now in a leg brace), Kim, me, and even my sister-in-law Amber made it in from Denver to run!

Easter Egg Hunt

Today we took our little man to an easter egg hunt at the school by our house. There were so many kids there it was crazy! I didn't know there were this many kids in the area. The hunt lasted about 2 minutes before all the eggs were snatched up. Luckily with the help of daddy we managed to get a couple eggs.

Eric and I went to Brazil for 10 days! It was wonderful...the weather was warm (about 90 degrees everyday) and the water was perfect. We first stayed in Rio for 3 days. Our hotel was on Cococabana Beach and it was nice but we have decided that Rio is not our favorite place. We left Monday for Buzios and we were so happy to get there. It's only about 3 hours by bus so it wasn't too bad. Our hotel in Buzios was amazing. The pool deck where we had breakfast every morning looked out over the bay. It was so much fun to watch the little tour and fishing boats go in and out for the day. Again the weather was perfectly hot and we had plenty of time to expolore the 9 beaches in Buzios. We were walking distance to 3 of them which we visited often. I have to admit we didn't take a lot of pictures because we had been there before so we mainly used our video camera. But here are the pictures we did take.

The second day we were in Rio it turned a little cloudy so we threw some clothes over our swim suits and grabbed a cab to the bottom of Sugar Loaf. We had to take 2 different trams to get to the top of the mountain so here we are after the first tram.

Here are the picture of rio from the top. It's a huge amazing city the sits among these beautiful mountains. It's kinda crazy how close the beach and mountains are. The poor areas are always up on the mountains.....so they get the million dollar views. Opposite of the states.

Eric looking sexy in his magnums....when he went to Nordstrom to buy them the girl didn't know what he was talking about when we asked for magnums. I guess he's getting old! ;)

Here is the view from our Rio hotel of Cococabana Beach. It was kinda crazy because on Sunday they closed down one lane of traffic and opened it up to walkers, bikers, and rollerbladers. They also had some fun street fair type stuff going on too.

One day we took a 10 hour cruise to different beaches outside of Buzios...I guess the 9 that Buzios offered was not enough. So here we are trying to look cute on top of the boat.

This was the first beach we stopped at and it was amazing. You can only get there by boat so the beaches were clean and so white. The water was even more clear than at the other beaches too! The guy you see in the picture was so weird...he came alone on the tour. And he had a permanent grin on the entire time. It was weird.

This was our last picture before taking our long journey home. Here is our hotel in Buzios. We will miss it but at the same time we were happy to come home and see our little man again.

Our New Bathroom.....finally!

We finally did what we have been wanting to do for over 3 years..... we completely gutted our master bath and started all over again, at least almost. We did keep our tub and toilet but besides those two things everything from the tile floor, tile shower, vanity, sinks, mirror, and cupboards are brand spanking new. Here are some pics of our new sanctuary. This was finished in February so I guess it took me a few months to post some pictures.

We have all been enjoying this rare treat of snow. I got Calvin all bundled up, with the exception of his gloves because he wouldn't keep them on. He almost looked like the brother from the Christmas Story...."I can't put my arms down"....but he wasn't quite that bad. At first he didn't know what to do until we went over to our neighbors and their son starting throwing snowballs. After that Calvin starting touching the snow and laughing. Later we went on a walk around the neighborhood where we ran into some friends who had a sled. So of course Calvin got on while one of the girls pulled him around on it and he was laughing so hard! I guess I need to get him one before we go to Bend, OR next.

After we got back from our walk Calvin was at the door begging to go back outside!

Big Helper

Calvin was helping Eric the other day rake up all the leaves in the back yard! He loves being outdoors especially now that he is walking so well. A few days after that I had to sweep up more leaves on the front sidewalk and as soon as I put the broom down he picked it up and started sweeping for me! It was so adorable. Now when Calvin is inside the house and sees the broom he grabs it and starts dragging it around the floor. I guess he is already OCD like his daddy. :)
